The middle aged mixtape project

For a couple of months now, myself and a friend have been podcasting. It's what all the cool kids are doing now apparently. Except, we're not kids. And I'm not sure if we're cool.

Me after listening to the latest Hottest 100.

Clint and I have a shared passion for music. We love listening to it, discussing it, pulling it all to pieces. The podcast came about quite spontaneously: Clint had begun a Facebook challenge of "10 albums that impacted your life", gotten stuck with the limited format of the challenge and started his blog "Fell In Love With a Girl". I did a a similar thing, except I ignored the whole "no words, just the cover" and wrote great swathes of text exploring the albums and also the personal attachment I had to the music. People seemed to enjoy them, Clint asked to reblog them and the idea that perhaps we should do this on a semi-regular basis evolved, mostly from us just tagging each other on band pages and saying "we should podcast this sh*t".

The format is quite simple really. We pick a topic, and build a playlist around that theme which is then released on Spotify and Apple Music (our streaming platforms of choice) every second Friday. Book ending the list discussion are two segments: Currently listening to, which is kinda self-explanitory; and "We like your old stuff better then your new stuff", which is play on an old Regurgitator track dealing with fans telling them their recent music was rubbish. We take a new(ish) release by an artist and review it against their discography. Sometimes they get a pass, others get slagged mercilessly (we're looking at you Matt Corby). We chat via Skype and record our audio's separately, which I then master before posting on Soundcloud and iTunes. And that's pretty much it.

We don't chase big numbers, and we're not experts on the matter. Just two guys shooting the breeze over something they love. Maybe you'll like it too. Tune in.
